SURGERY INSTITUTE OF THE FUTURE

Jupiter Medical Center’s new Surgery Institute will expand our surgical infrastructure to meet a growing demand and incorporate the most powerful, new techniques and technologies. Jupiter Medical Center’s patient volumes in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures have seen explosive growth in recent years. The surgical teams in our various Centers of Excellence currently perform more than 8,400 procedures annually.

The generous philanthropic support we have received in recent years has fueled major advances in our surgical capabilities. Within our Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program, highly trained surgeons utilize the HANA® table for the most advanced surgical techniques in minimally invasive hip replacement and the da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System to perform complex operations through just a few tiny incisions. Jupiter Medical Center’s orthopedics and spine surgeons are also experts in the use of the sophisticated MAKOplasty® RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System.

  • Jupiter Medical Center’s new, state-of-the-art Surgery Institute will include:

  • 16 new “Smart” operating rooms of the future with state-of-the-art imaging and interventional technologies
  • A hybrid operating room (advanced surgical theater)
  • A cutting-edge design that promotes infection control and patient safety
  • A patient-centered and caregiver-friendly design

“Technology is changing medicine in profound ways.
The increasing use of robotics and other computerized targeted techniques helps to diagnose and treat patients sooner and return them to their lives faster than ever before.”

Dr. K. Adam Lee, FACS, Medical Director, Thoracic Surgery & Lung Center of Excellence

“SMART” OPERATING ROOM

Jupiter Medical Center has always been at the forefront of technology. The new Surgery Institute will include 16 new ORs of the future that will utilize intelligent tools to improve patient health. These new “Smart” ORs will use state-of-the-art equipment that is digitally integrated so the patient’s information will be at the surgeon’s fingertips. Surgeons will be able to access a patient’s images during surgery, and transmit images from the
operating room to specialists for real-time consultation.

HYBRID OR

The Surgery Institute’s futuristic, 1,000-square-foot surgical theater will feature technologies such as highdefinition cameras and ceiling-mounted 3-D scanners that will enable multidisciplinary teams of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, interventionalists and technicians to perform both endovascular and openheart procedures, shifting between techniques in the same session when necessary.

INFECTION CONTROL AND PATIENT SAFETY

The Surgery Institute will foster efficient and safe surgical care through sophisticated infection control solutions, sterile processing, anesthesia workrooms and multiple nurses’ stations. The enhancement of ultraviolet technology throughout the Surgery Institute will help eliminate bacteria that manual processes can miss. Additionally, the operating room design will aim to reduce surface contamination through material selection and improved ergonomics.

PATIENT-CENTERED AND CAREGIVER FRIENDLY DESIGN

A larger Surgery Waiting Area will provide added comfort for caregivers and families. This area will also include private consultation rooms where medical staff and surgeons can consult with family members preoperatively and postoperatively. A state-of-the-art patient tracking system will be integrated into the overall design of the surgery center to provide seamless and error-free tracking of patients as they pass from pre-op to surgery and on to recovery. This tracking system will provide nurses, and surgeons up-to-the-minute knowledge of the patient’s progress, as well as aid in timely communication to the patient’s family or caregiver.
