Jupiter Medical Center Foundation Hosts 'an Evening Honoring Joe Namath' at the Plaza Hotel

JUPITER, FLA. (October 11, 2016) – On October 20th, Jupiter Medical Center Foundation is hosting a cocktail and dinner event, “An Evening Honoring Joe Namath,” at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The evening will honor the contributions of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath in the search for a treatment for traumatic brain injury (TBI) as well as raise funds for a phase II clinical trial at the Joe Namath Neurological Research Center at Jupiter Medical Center.

Jupiter Medical Center’s President and CEO, John D. Couris, expressed his profound thanks to Joe Namath. “At Jupiter Medical Center, our goal is to provide world class health care for our community. We are grateful for Joe Namath’s support and commitment in working with us as we investigate a potential treatment for TBI and raise funds to cover the cost so that all patients who qualify for the clinical trial are able to participate regardless of their ability to pay.”

Traumatic brain injury is believed to be the leading undiagnosed injury in the United States, affecting athletes, motorcyclists, children involved in team sports, military personnel, senior citizens and others. Those living with TBI can struggle with its devastating effects for days, months, years or even for the rest of their lives. The FDA-approved clinical trials are designed to determine whether or not hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a treatment that Joe Namath received at Jupiter Medical Center, could be a leading-edge treatment option for traumatic brain injury patients.

“This event is about giving the public an opportunity to learn about HBOT and giving a voice to those currently suffering from TBI,” said Liv Vesely, President of the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation. “We could not have imagined a better advocate for those survivors than we’ve found in Joe Namath.”

Joe Namath and the researchers at the Joe Namath Neurological Research Center believe that HBOT is a promising medical advancement that can provide real relief to patients affected by the lasting consequences of traumatic brain injury. ‘An Evening with Joe Namath’ is intended to bring further attention to the growing issue of TBI and to contribute to raising the funds necessary to carry out potentially life-changing HBOT clinical trials. “Hyperbaric oxygen therapy truly works,” said Joe Namath, “I have experienced first-hand the relief that HBOT can provide to those suffering from brain trauma and I am so grateful for that.”

The dinner event, hosted by sportscaster and former NFL defensive back John Dockery, will treat close to 400 guests to an evening inspired by fall foliage and football. The event will be chaired by Joe Cabrera, Vice Chairman of the Eastern Region of Colliers International, Charlie Modica, Founder and Chancellor of St. George’s University, and John Wren, President and CEO of Omnicom, and will include a remarks from Lt. General Robert Chelberg, President of Wounded Warriors of South Florida.

Other highlights of the evening will include a video of grateful HBOT patients, featuring Joe Namath, discussing the life-altering treatment that they received at Jupiter Medical Center. Exclusively curated silent and live auctions, featuring an in-home Chef Experience with the world-renowned chef Mario Batali, a walk-on role in an episode of Showtime’s “Ray Donavan” series, a one week stay at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach including a lunch with Joe Namath, and other high value items, will supplement fundraising to benefit the Institute.
