Jupiter Medical Center is pleased to announce a generous donation from Joe and Barbara Charles
to establish the “Joe and Barbara Charles Center for Urology.”
The donation will enable the independent, not-for-profit hospital to create
more access to urological care by recruiting a team of highly specialized
physicians, including a urologic oncologist, and acquiring additional
state-of-the-art technology. The multidisciplinary team will specialize
in general urology and urological cancers.
The new Center will expand access to an extremely in-demand medical specialty
– it has been reported that 50 percent of men and women will experience
a urological condition in their lifetime. Through extensive research and
planning, Jupiter Medical Center identified a growing need for specialized
urologists, especially in Palm Beach and Martin Counties, where the population
has increased 11.33 percent and 9.96 percent, respectively, creating delays
in care for urological conditions.
“As a hospital built by the community, for the community, it is important
that we stay ahead of the growing needs of our region,” said Amit
Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “This
generous donation and future investments in this program will enable us
to attract more world-class physicians and implement the latest technology
advancements, opening access to our region's highest quality health
care. We are grateful to Joe and Barbara Charles for their leadership
in establishing a new area of excellence for our hospital.”
Patrick O. Tenbrink, MD, a board-certified urologist, will start his new
position with the Jupiter Medical Center Physician Group (JMCPG) as the
Director of the Center for Urology beginning this summer. He will head
the new program under the leadership of Rogerio C. Lilenbaum, MD, FASCO,
SVP and Chief Physician Executive, and Director of The Anderson Family
Cancer Institute. The Center will be located at the Anderson Family Cancer
Institute on Jupiter Medical Center’s main campus at 1210 S. Old
Dixie Highway.
“As part of our vision for Jupiter Medical Center and our commitment
to serve the community, we realized we needed to create a center of excellence
for urology,” said Dr. Lilenbaum. “We were fortunate to recruit
Dr. Tenbrink to join JMCPG to become the inaugural Director of the Joe
and Barbara Charles Center for Urology. We partake in Mr. Charles’
vision and passion to bring outstanding expertise and a broad array of
services to Palm Beach and Martin Counties.”
Jupiter Medical Center’s urology care team will offer preventative,
diagnostic, management and surgical care for patients of all ages with
various urological conditions, including incontinence, benign prostate
hyperplasia (BPH), pelvic floor dysfunction, kidney stones, undescended
testis, interstitial cystitis and more.
“There is a tremendous opportunity to create an academic-style urology
program in our region,” said Dr. Tenbrink. “Our goal is to
create a urological center that includes multiple sub-specialists so patients
can receive the best quality care in an environment that prioritizes a
multidisciplinary approach to medicine. Facing a significant surge in
population growth coupled with a rising need for advanced urological treatment,
the implications for this Center are profound. I am grateful to Joe and
Barbara Charles for their commitment to health care excellence.”
Joe and Barbara Charles have been active contributors to Jupiter Medical
Center, donating state-of-the-art technology and contributing to the new
Johnny and Terry Gray Surgical Institute.
“The demographics of our region warrant the development of a technically
and strategically advanced urology center of excellence,” said Joe
and Barbara Charles. “It is our desire that the new Center employ
the latest cutting-edge protocols, working to provide best-in-class care
while also addressing the root causes of common urological conditions.
This Center will be a much-needed, unparalleled resource for our community.
We urge individuals driven by the urgent need for top-tier health care
accessibility to join us in making a tangible impact.”
“Joe and Barbara Charles have always been visionaries,” said
Traci Simonsen, Chief Philanthropy Officer for Jupiter Medical Center
Foundation. “Whether in business or philanthropy, their contributions
are consistently focused on solving problems and helping to improve the
lives of their communities. We are tremendously appreciative of their
foresight to expand access to one of the most in-demand healthcare specialties,
ensuring that patients will have the highest quality health care when
and where they need it. We hope they inspire others who want to make a
difference.”
