Donation supports renovation and expansion of The Margaret W. Niedland
Breast Center
Jupiter, FL – October 29, 2025 -
Jupiter Medical Center (JMC) is proud to announce an impactful $5 million gift from Dorothy J. Thomson
to support the expansion of The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center, a
leading destination for breast health services in Palm Beach County and
the Treasure Coast.
The $5 million donation represents one-third of the center’s total
fundraising goal and will significantly enhance access to advanced imaging
services for the community. In appreciation for the donation,
Jupiter Medical Center Foundation will name the center’s new lobby and healing garden after Dorothy
J. Thomson, honoring her enduring commitment to compassionate women’s
health care.
JMC’s expansion plans include adding 13,000 square feet of dedicated
imaging services space, purchase three state-of-the-art CT scanners, purchase
a second MRI machine, build additional mammography suites and an ultrasound
biopsy room, add space for additional ultrasound rooms and a dedicated
outpatient laboratory.
“The expansion of The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center is a vital
step in ensuring that everyone in our region has access to state-of-the-art
breast imaging and diagnostics, and in an environment that is conducive
to healing,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter
Medical Center. “Dorothy’s extraordinary generosity will help
us meet growing demand so we can continue to deliver the highest standard
of care.”
The expansion will allow Jupiter Medical Center to increase imaging capacity,
reduce wait times, and provide more personalized care through technologies
such as 3D mammography, breast MRI, and image-guided biopsies. The center’s
serene design and patient-first philosophy will be further enhanced by
the newly named spaces.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and chose to receive
my treatment at The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center,” said Ms.
Thomson. “The compassion, emotional support, and guidance I received
throughout my cancer journey was truly amazing. We are incredibly fortunate
to have this exceptional facility in our community, and I’m honored
to help ensure its continued growth and impact for others facing breast
cancer.”
Building on this momentum, funds raised from Jupiter Medical Center Foundation’s
49th Annual Black-Tie Ball will be earmarked to support the initiative.
The high-profile charity event, chaired this year by Suzanne Niedland,
the daughter of the Center’s namesake, will be held at The Breakers
on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
“This is more than a donation,” said Traci Simonsen, Chief
Philanthropy Officer at Jupiter Medical Center Foundation. “Dorothy’s
generosity will touch thousands of lives and inspire others to join us
in building a future where early detection and compassionate care are
accessible to all. Her gift is a legacy to our community.”
